Itinerary

Arrive in Abruzzo and meet your assistant, who will explain the itinerary you have chosen and provide all the necessary information and equipment. The assistant will welcome you with a glass of the traditional “Bicicletta Abbruzzese”, an Italian shandy made of beer and lemonade, also known as Radler or Panaché, which in Abruzzo is conventionally made of red wine and lemonade.

The 31 communes of Controguerra form a true “Wine Park”. Its soil ranges from limestone to clay mixed with river soil from the Vomano and Tronto rivers. This area produces the DOC Controguerra, a denomination established in 1996 for wines produced within the communes included in the DOC area, such as Controguerra, Torano Nuovo, Ancarano, Corropoli, and Colonnella.

As you travel along the route between Tronto and Vibrata, you can appreciate the stunning views before arriving in Controguerra, located at 267 meters above sea-level and renowned for its medieval splendour. Continue to Torano Nuovo for a wine tasting. Dinner and overnight stay. (It is possible to request stops to visit wineries, olive oil mills, cheese producers, and bakeries.)

Total distance today will be 34 km (around 21 miles) with a gradient of 680Mt (2200 feet)

Today the ride takes you through Sant’Omero, a town famous for its salted cod (Baccalà).

Arrive in Civitella del Tronto, a breathtaking ancient hamlet in the heart of Abruzzo, and be sure to check out the imposing Borbonic Fortress containing the narrowest street in Italy, the “Ruetta”. Continue to Campli, a small but splendid hamlet in Abruzzo rich in history and spirituality.

Here you can explore the Holy Steps – 28 oak steps built in the 18th century that represent a mix of mysticism and religion – and taste the delicious Porchetta. Dinner and overnight stay.

Total distance today will be 34 km (21 miles) with a gradient of 740 mt (2400 feet)

Pedal along the sunny, gentle hills dotted with rows of beautiful vineyards, and explore the flavours of tradition, the colours of the scenery, the art of the medieval hamlets, and the deliciously crafted local wines. Stop by San Nicolò a Tordino and Notaresco to admire their medieval centres. Ride along the Acquaviva path, visit Morro D’Oro and Cologna, and finish the day with a Michelin-starred dinner at DONE in Montepagano as you gear up for the night.

Today’s final total distance will be 42 km (26 miles) with a gradient of 700 mt (2250 feet)

Today’s route is a tranquil one, taking you towards the sea on the Abruzzo Bike to Coast route. Before reaching the coast, pedal around the hilly terrain of the Nature Reserve of Borsacchio, which extends from Roseto degli Abruzzi to the coastal plain of Cologna Spiaggia; an area still pristine and uncontaminated. Travel through Cologna Spiaggia, Giulianova, and Tortoreto Lido before arriving in Alba Adriatica for a traditional fish dinner. Overnight stay.

Today’s distance will be 30 km (19 miles) with 100 mt of gradient (330 feet)

Sadly, your wonderful cycling tour concludes after breakfast.
